SmillaEnlarger is a small and free image enlarging tool that creates larger versions of your images without losing any of their original quality. It works seamlessly with any JPG, BMP, PNG, GIF, TIFF, or PPM file, and it includes some basic editing functions to enhance the quality of your output file or to add some neat effects to it.

This small yet powerful tool can be used in two different ways. The Mini Mode is the simpler of the two, and allows for semi-automatic enlargements which require very little intervention from your part. You will be presented with a thumbnail version of your file, and all you have to do is select the width and height you want the new file to have, and leave the default “enlarger parameter” do the rest. However, for those of you with a taste for detail, the program can display a larger window with a clearer and larger view of your image, as well as a number of options to apply to each parameter. These are referred to as “sharp”, “sharp and noisy”, and “painted”, and each of them can be customized by changing the values for sharpness, denoise, flatness, dithering, etc. A preview button will let you see at any time how the applied changes will look like.

The program comes with a useful cropping tool that will allow you to select the precise section of the image that you really need enlarging. The selected part will then appear in the thumbnail view, giving you a better idea of what the final image will be like.

SmillaEnlarger manages to create big size images with the minimum artifacts possible. Of course, do not expect a spotless large image of a low-quality input file.
